Telemedicine Informed Consent
Last updated: January 8, 2026
What is Telemedicine?
Telemedicine involves the use of electronic communications to enable healthcare providers to consult with patients at a distance. This may include video consultations, audio calls, and secure messaging. By using Treato's telemedicine services, you consent to receive healthcare services through these electronic means.
Benefits of Telemedicine
- Convenient access to healthcare from your home or any location
- Reduced travel time and associated costs
- Reduced exposure to contagious illnesses in waiting rooms
- Access to specialists who may not be available locally
- Flexible scheduling options
Limitations and Risks
You understand and acknowledge that telemedicine has limitations:
- No Physical Examination: The healthcare provider cannot perform a physical examination and must rely on information you provide and visual observation
- Technical Issues: Poor internet connection, audio/video quality issues, or equipment failures may interrupt or prevent the consultation
- Diagnostic Limitations: Some conditions cannot be accurately diagnosed without in-person examination or diagnostic tests
- Security Risks: Despite security measures, electronic communications carry some risk of unauthorized access
- Not Suitable for Emergencies: Telemedicine is not appropriate for medical emergencies
Emergency Situations
IMPORTANT: Telemedicine is NOT appropriate for medical emergencies.
If you experience any of the following, please call emergency services (112) or go to the nearest emergency room immediately:
- Chest pain or difficulty breathing
- Signs of stroke (facial drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty)
- Severe bleeding or trauma
- Loss of consciousness
- Thoughts of self-harm or suicide
- Any condition you believe requires immediate medical attention
Your Responsibilities

- Be in a private, quiet location with adequate lighting during video consultations
- Ensure you have a stable internet connection and functioning device
- Follow the healthcare provider's instructions and recommendations
- Seek in-person care if recommended by the provider
- Not record the consultation without the provider's consent
